Yoga for Pregnancy

Pregnancy, the journey into motherhood, is an amazing time but it is not without its challenges. It is a time of physical change, fluctuating energy levels and heightened emotions. Practicing yoga in pregnancy provides some "time out" to focus on your own needs and the needs of your unborn baby and helps you to connect with the inner strengths and resources that you already possess that will support you through your pregnancy and the birth of your baby.

Yoga is the ideal form of exercise in pregnancy providing a safe and enjoyable way to stretch and strengthen your body, improve flexibility, increase vitality, release tension and develop stamina all of which will help to make your pregnancy more enjoyable and your experience in labour a positive one. There is an emphasis on working with the breath throughout the class. Yoga can also help to reduce some of the minor discomforts of pregnancy such as backache, heart burn etc.

Yoga is also the ideal preparation for labour and birth. In addition to helping you to prepare physically yoga teaches you to use the breath to stay focused and in control and to allow the release of the body's natural pain killers - endorphins. In this pregnancy yoga class you will also practice positions and breathing techniques that may be new to you that will be useful in labour.

Yoga can be particularly helpful in pregnancy, providing a way to prepare body, mind and spirit for birth and motherhood

Class sizes are small with plenty of opportunity to address individual needs and concerns. Please bring two pillows, a blanket and a yoga mat if you have one. (Mats are available to borrow so there is no need to buy one specially)
